The Handmade Cocktail Co. Secret Leap Year Cocktail
There surely is no day in the calendar that strikes as much fear into an unmarried man’s heart as February 29th. Fortunately it only comes around every four years, but when it does it is a frightening experience. It is of course the only day that ladies are legally allowed to propose to their men (well maybe not legally, but at the very least ethically). One might consider that I am being a little melodramatic about the potential of having ones beloved propose, but that would be underestimating the male need to be utterly in control of such situations. Take away a man’s ability to propose by getting in there first, and a woman might as well just go the whole hog and, well, that just doesn’t bare thinking about.
Faced with the fear that ones masculinity might be challenged, there is only one thing for it, reach for the booze. Ever aware of the stresses faced by the male of the species, the inventive chaps over at Master of Malt’s Handmade Cocktail Co. have come up with just the job. For one day only, they are releasing a very special top secret Leap Year Cocktail. Available in 20cl bottles only on 29th February only, the contents are known by only one man, and he ‘aint telling! Those who purchase a bottle will be invited to guess the ingredients, and the individual who comes closest to the correct answer will be given the opportunity to name the cocktail when it goes on sale in full-size 70cl bottles later in the year. In addition, the lucky imbiber will also receive 20cl bottles of the other seven vintage cocktails in the range which I reviewed here.
Having been fortunate enough to secure myself an advance sample of the Secret Leap Year Cocktail I can testify to the fact that it is a worthy buy. If you need any further tempting, here are a few tasting notes;
Nose: Sweet and herbal with some spicy notes poking around. A hint of the medicinal about it which seems very appropriate.
Neat: As sweet as you would want a cocktail to get but with plenty else going on to prevent it ever nearing the sickly stage. There are spicy, herbal and citrus notes all bouncing around and playing off the spirit base that I’m sure has seen the insides of an oak barrel. There is a nice boozy kick to it and those wise enough to invest in a bottle will find it doesn’t last all that long for this is the best yet in an excellent range of bottled cocktails.
Of course, this cocktail isn’t really just for unmarried men, or for people with an irrational fear of February 29th. Whatever your gender or calendar preferences, set a date in your diary and pick up a bottle or two here.
